The Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Dr Eric Oduro Osae has called for strict application of anti-corruption laws in the country as part of the fight against the menace.

In his view, application of the law marks the first major step in winning the fight against the practice.

Dr Oduro-Osae was speaking on the Ghana Tonight Show with Alfred Ocansey on TV3 on Tuesday July 26 while commenting on the Afrobarometer report released by the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) which placed the Office of the Presidency second on the list of institutions or offices perceived to be corrupt. The Police was first.

The report revealed that 55 percent of Ghanaians said it was mostly corrupt, while 40 percent said it was partly corrupt.

Dr Oduro Osae said this means that “we should double or efforts in fighting corruption. A lot of people still don’t understand the intricacies of corruption and its impact. It also tells me that a lot of education is needed. It is a wake up call for us to double our efforts towards the fight against corruption.”

He further expressed optimism that the fight against corruption can be won.

“I believe that we can win the fight against corruption. If citizens appreciate that corruption is a canker they will not indulge in corruption, it boils down to applying the law.”
