The Methodist Church of Ghana has stated its plan to discuss the current state of the anti-LGBTQ bill with President Akufo-Addo.

The Church expressed worry that Ghanaians are feeling uneasy over President Akufo-Addo’s protracted delay in signing the law.

During the annual Methodist Church Easter Media Engagement, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, stressed the significance of the President listening to Ghanaians’ voices concerning the bill.

“Now we are praying that the President will also give his assent to it so that it becomes what Ghanaians have asked for.

“We are also planning to come up with a paper so we are planning to meet the president at the Jubilee House so that we can all think about the best way to go on this thing.”

Meanwhile, two suits relating to the Anti-gay bill are currently before the Supreme Court. President Akufo-Addo has announced his intention to allow the pending suit be exhausted before taking action on the assent of the bill.

An intention by Parliament to prevent the vetting and approval of the nominated ministers until the bill is assented to by the President was quashed by the Supreme Court which ordered Parliament to go ahead with the vetting and approval.

However, the lawyers for the Parliament of Ghana have written to the Supreme Court, asking the apex court to expedite the hearing of Richard Sky’s and Dr. Amanda Odoi’s interlocutory injunction cases against the legislature over the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
