Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur has lambasted metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) for mechanical errors in the naming of some streets in the country.

He says the exercise has been characterised with errors which have led to the history behind some of the popular streets being changed.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur made this observation while addressing the 3rd Local Government Services Coordinating Directors’ Conference in Cape Coast.

The conference is themed: “Effective Leadership for Sustainable Local Level Service Delivery – the Role of the Coordinating Director”.

The three-day conference is scheduled to end on Friday, November 13.

Vice President’s call comes a little over a year after the 18-month deadline given by President John Dramani Mahama over the exercise expired.

President Mahama in March, 2013 had tasked all MMDCEs to name streets under the National Urban Policy Framework and Action Plan.

He later warned that the execution of the project will be part of the performance criteria of MMDCEs.
