Amaliba hails major drug bust, says past gov’ts lacked action on narcotics

Abraham Amaliba

Abraham Amaliba, Acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority, has questioned the effectiveness of previous governments in tackling drug trafficking in Ghana.

Speaking on TV3’s Big Issue, Amaliba addressed the recent interception of 73 slabs of suspected cocaine at Swissport.

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) seized the shipment and arrested four suspects who were allegedly attempting to traffic the drugs to the Netherlands.

Amaliba praised the state agencies involved in the operation, noting that Ghana has long served as a transit point for drug trafficking.

The kind of arrests made in the last three months hasn’t been seen in the entire eight years of the previous administration,” Amaliba stated. “This demonstrates the current government’s resolve to combat the drug menace.

He encouraged security agencies to sustain their momentum and continue their crackdown.

This latest seizure forms part of NACOC’s ongoing operations aimed at curbing international drug trafficking through Ghana’s shipping routes.

The arrested individuals are currently under investigation.
