All is set for 27th Annual Awards on Sunday, October 29 – GJA

The National Executive of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced Sunday, 29th October, 2023 as the date for the 27th Annual GJA Media Awards.

The GJA Awards is an annual event meant to celebrate professional excellence in journalism. This, there are awards in 34 competitive categories up for grabs.

According to a release dated October 23, 2023, signed by the GJA General Secretary, Mr. Kofi Yeboah, ‘Leveraging media freedom to sustain the democratic and security architecture: The litmus test of Election 2024 is the theme for this year’s awards ceremony.

This theme, according to the executive body of the GJA was informed by the significance of media freedom to democratic development and promotion of national security.

“The GJA believes Election 2024 will be a test of character of the country’s democratic and security architecture and the critical role of the media in ensuring success in the test cannot be underestimated but only under a conducive media freedom regime” the release stated.

The event will be chaired by the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev Dr. Ernest Adu Gyamfi and the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa will deliver the Keynote Address.

The awards ceremony, which will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre at 3:00pm, “is expected to be attended by at least 1,000 participants, including Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Members of Diplomatic Corps, representatives of local and international media partners, representatives of Corporate Ghana and members of the inky fraternity” according to the release.

Meanwhile, GCB Bank has been announced as the lead sponsor of this year’s awards ceremony. The GJA called on other sponsors to come on board to enhance the success of this event.

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is a professional organization representing Journalists in Ghana. Founded in 1949, this organization is a registered and professional association listed as one of several bodies on the board of the National Media Commission.

The GJA Media Awards is a competition held annually to award distinguished and well excelled journalists in a particular year. This competition is opened to all members of the Association working in either the print, electronic and online media firms in Ghana.
