All Ghanaian students in Israel doing well – Embassy

There has been a lot exchange programmes between Ghanaian and Israeli students

All Ghanaian students in Israel are doing well, the Ghana Embassy in Israel has assured.

It also said the security situation in the Middle East country is being monitored and updates on students and the larger Ghanaian community will be provided “as and when needed”.

This response was given in a letter to the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS).

The Union had requested updates on Ghanaian students amid Israel’s siege in Gaza.

Since Saturday, October 7, when Hamas militants killed over 1,000 in a cross-border raid, Israel has been shelling the region in a resolve to smoke out the ‘terrorist group’.

This has left thousands killed and many more injured while a lot of residents have been displaced.

There were reports that some Ghanaians were caught up in the cross-fire following a viral video on social media.

This was, however, dismissed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

“The Ministry wishes to state categorically that the incident in the said video did not occur in Gaza nor Israel, or anywhere related to the ongoing conflict,” a press release on Wednesday, October 11 clarified.

“The general public is therefore advised to disregard this misleading video.”

NUGS also elected to find out more about students in Israel.

The Embassy responded thus: “I wish to inform you that the Embassy is in touch with Ghanaian students in Israel and that, they are all doing well.

“The Embassy is also monitoring the security situation and will continue to provide updates for our students and the larger Ghanaian community, as and when needed.”

The response also noted that all Ghanaians in Israel have been advised to leave if that is more convenient.

“The Embassy is available to provide logistic support where necessary, for those who respond to the call to depart immediately,” a memo signed for the Head of Mission by Patience Gameli-Kwame said.
