President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has led dozens of members of the Executive as well as his family to test for Covid-19.

The president tested negative, his doctor indicated on Wednesday.

Dr Patrina Techi-Ankrah revealed that about 98 staff at the Presidency have also been tested and they all had negative outcomes.

“A day before the president’s birthday, him, the First Lady, his daughters and all the staff of his household [were tested] and I am happy to announce that all the tests came negative,” she told journalists at a press briefing in Accra.

“A day after his birthday, we continued to test people at the secretariat and as I speak now, a total of 99 persons have been tested and the results have come back negative.”

This forms part of measures to subject frontline workers to testing in order to clear them or otherwise of the viral disease.

So far, a total of 4,560 tests have been conducted by the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research (NMIMR) – for the country’s southern sector – and the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) – for the northern and middle sectors.

After the president, ministers of state as well as key government officials will also undergo tests.

Minister of Health Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, who is said to have tested negative, disclosed that the president has had sleepless nights since the outbreak of the disease and is doing all he can to stem its spread.

“The old man is not sleeping,” he told journalists at the briefing in Accra.
