Akufo-Addo sacks acting EPA boss for not being “suitable”

President Nana Akufo-Addo has withdrawn the appointment of Peter Abum-Sarkodie as the acting Chief Executive of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). A dismissal letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, said Mr Abum-Sarkodie is not “a suitable candidate” for the acting position which he has held since June 5, 2017. “Regrettably, the President is obliged to withdraw your appointment in the face of the advice of the governing board of the EPA, which does not find you a suitable candidate for the position,” the letter explained. He has been given up to Friday, April 17 to vacate his office and hand over to the Deputy Executive Director in charge of Field Operations, Mr. John Pwamang. The President thanked Mr. Abum-Sarkodie for his services and wished him well in his future endeavours. Mr.  Abum-Sarkodie whose appointment to the top job was subject to the advice of the governing board of the EPA in consultation with the Public Services Commission, was said to have failed a competency interview with the Commission. Mr. Sarkodie was reported Monday to have said he was challenging the results of the Civil Service Commission. “That issue has cropped up for some time now and the presidency is trying to deal with it. The fact is I’m challenging the results and hopefully we will hear the current development by tomorrow.
