President Akufo-Addo has launched a policy for the National Service Scheme.

The policy, which covers the period 2024 to 2034, is expected to offer service personnel skills and hands-on entrepreneurial training to make them ready for the job market after service.

The policy is also expected to inculcate national values and civic responsibility in service personnel mainly for the promotion of national unity and the bond of common citizenship.

Launching the policy in Accra on April 15, President Akufo-Addo said “government is committed to providing the necessary resources to ensure the effective implementation of the policy.”

The President added that, “the policy sets out the broad framework for transforming the National Service Scheme from just merely mobilising and deploying young graduates into various sectors of the Ghanaian economy, into becoming a world-class institution, which shapes service personnel for success in the professional world.
This policy document represents a paradigm shift, providing direction for the scheme’s delivery and aligning it with government agenda to ensure that service personnel are adequately prepared for the transition from school to the workforce.
The managers of the National Service Scheme said the policy is a major boost to complement government’s employment agenda.

Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, Osei Essibey Antwi said “the policy will ensure personnel either become self-employed, offering employment for others and also be ready for employment.”
