Akufo-Addo expected to receive report on Chereponi conflict today

Regent of Chereponi, Pastor Jaminja Ndakar[/caption] The fact-finding committee tasked to investigate the cause of the periodic conflicts between Konkombas and Chokosis in Northern Ghana is expected to present its findings to president Nana Akufo-Addo today. The five-member committee chaired by the Northern Regional chair of the National Peace Council was committee was set up by the Interior Minister Ambrose Dery in the wake of the renewed conflict weeks ago that left some people dead and others injured. It was mandated to identify the cause of the bloody conflict and make appropriate recommendations to the government for the necessary action to be taken. It was given February 12, 2019 to submit its report. Northern Regional security to the Peace Council, Reverend Father Thaddeus Kuusah, who revealed this at a durbar in Chereponi, noted the success of the peace process depends largely depends on the people of the area. “The Peace Council has been undertaking some activities with the Saboba and Chereponi areas to facilitate peace. We cannot bring peace to you, but we can only facilitate with your support”, Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Kuusah said. He entreated residents, especially the youth to eschew all acts of violence, indicating that the mediation committee has also put together groups in the two districts which will be supported with logistics to continue the peace process.
