The findings of the three-member ministerial committee tasked to investigate disturbances at Ejura in the Ashanti Region will be published latest next week, information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has disclosed.
He said President Akufo-Addo has directed that the findings be made known to the public at length. This comes nearly two months after the committee chaired by Court of Appeal judge, Justice George Kingsley Koomson ended its sitting and pledged an “open-minded’ report.
The committee was tasked to conduct a public inquiry into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate occurrences, at Ejura in the Ashanti Region, on Tuesday, June 29 and also to inquire into any matter which the committee considered incidental or reasonably related to the cause of the events and the associated deaths and injuries and submit a detailed report with recommendations for appropriate actions within 10 days.
However, the committee could not finish its work within the timeframe and thus requested an extension to which the Interior Minister obliged.
Speaking on what has become of the work of the committee on Eyewitness News Tuesday, September 8, the information minister said the report will be out soon.
“The President has instructed that we publish the report so perhaps before the end of this week or next week will be publishing the report in full and at the same time also announcing the implementation measures that come along with that publication,”, he said.
Before the publication of the report, however, Mr Nkrumah said the president has directed the Attorney General’s office to advise on a number of things.
“The President asked the Attorney General to look at it and give advice on a number of things which will become clearer when implementation starts. The Attorney General has completed the study of the committee’s report”, he said.
The committee was set up at the behest of the President following the killing of two people and the injuring of four others by soldiers during a protest against the killing of a social activist, Ibrahim Muhammed, popularly known as Kaaka Macho.
Kaaka died on Monday, June 28, 2021, after he was attacked by unknown assailants while returning home from an event he attended in the area.
