Leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated British Prime Minister David Cameron after successfully being re-elected last Thursday.

The Conservative Party, which Mr Cameron leads, won 331 out of the 650 seats in the House of Commons to secure overall majority.

“This is to congratulate warmly British Prime Minister, David Cameron, and the Conservative Party for their victory in Thursday’s general elections,” Nana Addo opened his statement on Sunday.

He observed that the outcome of the election “is a clear vote of confidence in the sterling leadership provided by David Cameron and the Conservative Party” in the last five years.

“Upon assuming office in 2010, David Cameron met an economy caught in the global financial crisis, a growing public debt, and rising unemployment.

“He came in with a plan, set the right priorities, stayed focused and has delivered on where it matters most – the economy.

“The results in Thursday’s polls show that the British people believe that their Government, under David Cameron’s leadership, has restored confidence and is delivering on the economy, on jobs, and on improved living standards which are providing families with a growing sense of security.”

Nana Addo expressed excitement of his party about the Conservatives’ victory “because the values we both share – beliefs in individual liberty, freedom and responsibility, respect for human rights and the rule of law, the principles of democratic accountability, the efficacy of the market economy and social justice – have proven again to be the surest way towards steering any nation back onto the path of strong economic growth and prosperity.”
