Leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended warm congratulations to Guinea president, Alpha Conde, over his re-election in last month’s polls.

Conde had been declared winner in the October 11 elections but opposition candidates Faya Lansana Millimono, Papa Koly Kourouma and Lansana Kouyate had challenged the results in court with the main opposition candidate, Cellou Diallo, also rejecting the results.

But the court last Saturday declared Conde winner after dismissing the suit brought before it.

Conde was declared winner by 58 per cent.

“The 58% margin of victory chalked by President Conde in the October 18 election is, indeed, an affirmation of the confidence the Guinean people have reposed in him, after a lifetime spent in the struggle for democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law, and for solidarity amongst the African peoples,” Nana Addo stated.

“By the result of this election, the Guinean people have also strengthened their democratic credentials, following the positive history they made by electing for the first time, in 2010, their national leader within the context of democratic principles and multi-party competition.”

He wished Mr Conde and the Guineans well and urged them to keep up their relation with Ghana.

“It is my hope that the relations between Guinea and Ghana will grow from strength to strength in the second term of Alpha Conde’s presidency.”
