Akufo-Addo calls for parents’ support to fight child rape

President Akufo-Addo feted school kids in Kyebi, E/R[/caption] President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is seeking the support of parents to end rape, human trafficking and marriage among children. “We need the support of parents to stop child rape, human trafficking and child marriage.” The President was speaking at a Christmas party organised by government for school children at Kyebi in the East Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region. He promised to invest in education but encouraged pupils to study hard and benefit from the Free Senior High School policy. About 2,000 pupils from basic schools across the municipality were part of the President’s Christmas party. Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Otiko Afisa Djaba urged parents to teach their children to become respectful and know their rights. “As we try to ensure that children enjoy their rights, we should also bear in mind that those rights go with responsibilities that should be expressed properly and productively,” she said. “This would naturally forge discipline.” The Paramount Chief of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council, Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, advised pupils to avoid anti-social behaviours that affect their academic performance. “You need to stop the video games, night outings and the things that stop you from learning.” By Yvonne Neequaye|3news.com|Ghana Follow @3Newsgh]]>
