Del Farms, an agro-business company based in Ghana has donated 120 bags of charcoal for distribution to residents of communities affected by flood caused by the spillage of water from the Akosombo and Kpong dams.

The charcoal will be presented to the residents under the auspices of 3 Foundation.

Presenting the charcoal, Mr. Mawuli Gbedawo of Del Farms said, “Our farming activities extend towards the Tongu areas and knowing how the flood may have caused damages to the livelihood of our brothers and sisters affected, shouldn’t prevent them from enjoying their traditional home cooked meal. We felt the need to reach out with our charcoal to support in the cooking and heating of their foods.”

According to him they introduced Del-Carbon, a sustainable and environmentally friendly charcoal product in a bid to revolutionize the charcoal industry in Ghana.

Unlike conventional methods of charcoal production, that involve indiscriminate tree felling, Del-Carbon sources its raw materials responsibly from agro residues such as coconut waste, palm kernel shells, corn cobs, and branches from pruned trees.

“Our charcoal possesses qualities that may include, longer burn time, burns2x hotter, produces little to no smoke and contains less ash littering property,” he explained.

The company, established in 2017, has been at the forefront of sustainable agriculture, focusing on livestock and cash crop farming in the West African tropical zones.

The company’s operations cover the Shai Osu-Doku District to the North Tongu and Asuogyaman areas.

“We are in the agricultural business and recycling of agricultural waste into profitable ventures. Policies that will give us tax incentives and favourable financial credits and support will be an area that will go a long way to support the company’s growth,” Mr.  Gbedawo appealed.
