Affail Monney re-elected GJA Prez

Roland Affail Monney beat close contender Lloyd Evans[/caption] Roland Affail Monney has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA). He polled 310 out of the total valid votes cast to beat contenders Lloyd Evans and Johnnie Aryeetey in polls held countrywide on Friday. Though he dropped votes in the major capital, the head of radio at state broadcaster Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) made inroads in the other regions. In the Brong Ahafo Region, for instance, he garnered 24 votes against Lloyd Evans’s 4. Johnnie Aryeetey had none. In the Upper West Region, RAM – as he is affectionately referred to in the newsroom – had 9 votes with closest contender Evans polling 1 vote. Mr Aryeetey, who found his name in the voters’ register as John Dramani Mahama, had no votes. Mr Monney expressed joy at his re-election, extending a hand of welcome to his contenders. “Ours is going to be an all-inclusive and not exclusive [tenure],” he told journalists at the Ghana International Press Center. “I alone cannot do it. I will bring on board [everybody] and forage for ideas.” 1-vote loss Linda Asante Adjei beat three other contenders to emerge winner in the vice presidential contest. She polled 209 votes to beat Tina Yeboah (111), Francis Kokutse (93) and Matthew Mac Kwame (92). General Secretary David Agbenu lost by only one vote to Edmund Kofi Yeboah, who polled 251 of the total valid votes cast. Albert Dwumfuor (312) also won his Organising Secretary battle with Vance Azu (186).
