All is set for the 4th edition of the Economic Dialogue Series.

The 4th edition will be held Thursday, April 1 at 9:00am.

It is themed: ‘Ghana’s Recovery Path in 2021 – Balancing Fiscal Consolidation With Growth Policies’.

Under the auspices of Media General, the Series will take place at the Executive Theatre of the leading media company in Ghana under strict Covid-19 protocols.

Among the guests to be at the programme is the Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Wemkele Keabetswe Mene.

He will be joined by Standard Chartered’s Head of Research in charge of Africa and Middle East Razia Khan and Ghana’s immediate past Finance Minister Seth Emmanuel Terkper.

The others are Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) Michael Luguje and IMANI Africa Vice President Bright Simmons.

The rest are Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) Professor Peter Quartey and Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Finance Dr Nii Noi Ashong.

Renowned economist Kwame Pianim has urged these resource persons to be blunt in sharing their opinions at the forum.

General Manager for News at Media General Sedem Ofori explains that the forum forms part of “efforts at stimulating a fact-based, open discussion about the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on Ghana”.

“We want to take stock of the impact of the disease on the economy, and court ideas from industry, academia and managers of the economy for solutions.”

The issues to be teased out will also be contingent on the 2021 budget statement approved by Parliament on Friday, March 19.

“At the moment the country is confronted with staggering numbers of unemployment, widespread debt default by small businesses and steep declines in revenue mobilization by government,” Mr Ofori stated.

“The 2021 budget has introduced a plethora of taxes as part of the solution but is that the way to go?”
