Accra records first pneumococcal case; death toll now 37

The deadly pneumococcal meningitis has hit the Greater Accra Region making it the 7th region to record a case within the last two months.
Onua News can confirm three cases of the Pneumococcal meningitis have been recorded in the Greater Accra region.

The region is the latest to be hit by the disease which has claimed over 37 lives since its outbreak in the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Eastern Volta Region, Upper West regions and Greater Accra

Over 210 people have been infected with the disease across the nation.

The cases in Accra were recorded at the Ridge Hospital.

Head of Public Health Directorate at the Ridge Hospital Dr. Farida Abdullai who confirmed the case to Onua News said measures have been put in place to control the spread of the deadly disease.

She called on the public not to panic but should immediately report symptoms of the disease to the nearest hospital.
