According to the family, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Committee and the government have failed to adhere to the roadmap to bring lasting solution to the Dagbon crises, which led to the murder of Ya Na Yakubu Andani in 2002.
Briefing a section of journalists, the spokes person of the Abudu Royal Gate, Vahidina Dr. Nantogma said government scheduled the funeral rites of Na Mahamadu in September 2006 but had not adhered to the date.
He said the prerequisite of the funeral is the renovation of the Royal Mausoleum where the funeral rites is to be performed, adding that the Mausoleum was built by the great grandfather of Mahamadu Abdulai II, Ya Na Alhassan Abdulai.
“There is the lack of commitment and effort to commence work on the renovation of the Gbewaa Palace [and] is not promising and there is despondency among our supporters and sympathizers.”
He added that there is the creeping loss of trust in the Asantehene Committee and the presidency.
“Nothing short of immediate and concrete steps in renovating the Gbewaa Palace can rekindle the faith of our family members and supporters in the work of the committee.”
Na Dr. Nantogma emphasized that the Abudu Royal Family would be compelled to renovate the Gbewaa Palace for the funerals of the two late Ya Nas – Mahamadu Abdulai and Andani Yakubu II if government and the Otumfuo Committee failed to do so by January 25, 2016.
He said: “It is trite knowledge that the non-performances of the funeral rites of Na Mahamadu Abdulai in the Gbewaa Palace as that of a deceased Ya Na is the single most important threat to the peace and stability of Dagon Traditional Area in particular and the security of the nation in general.”
The Abudu family stated that they “should not be blamed for any situation in the area if the Asantehene Committee and the President continue the inter-segment and misguided counsel of Kuga Na Abdulai Bawa, the senior king maker of the Yendi Skin.”
It will be recalled that, Ya Na Andani Yakubu was murdered at his place in 2002 and the administration of New Patriotic Party (NPP) set up a Committee under the Chairmanship of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to delve into the traditional aspect of the incident to pave way for the burial, installation of regent of the Andani gate and the funeral rites of the two Ya Nas.
A road map to peace was stalled after the enskinment of the regent of the Andani Royal Gate.
Na Mahamadu Abdulai passed on 27 years ago and his funeral has not been performed yet.
In Dagbon Tradition, only the two gates of Andani and Abudu are occupants of the skin of Yendi, the capital of Dagbon. The skin becomes the overlord of the area and all Dagombas pay allegiance to him.
