Parliament is seeking to drag the Minister for Communications and Dgtialisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful onto the floor of parliament to brief the house on the national telephony and data outage affecting mobile phone users across the country.

MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa made the application for the sector Minister to be summoned.

“This will serve the people we present here very well,” Mr Ablakwa said in Parliament on Friday March 15 after making an appeal to the Speaker to invite the Minister.

Regarding the internet disruptions, the National Communications Authority (NCA) earlier said it was monitoring developments regarding an undersea cable disruption that has affected mobile and fixed data networks across the country.

The Authority, in a statement, said, “The disruptions affecting multiple undersea cables responsible for carrying international traffic have occurred in Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire and with some disruptions in Portugal. This has led to a significant degradation of data services across the country.”

“It is important to note that the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are working around the clock to restore full services. In addition, the MNOs have informed affected customers of the disruptions via various channels.

“The Authority is monitoring the situation and will update the public accordingly,” it added.
