Over fifty thousand people in four hotspots districts within Greater Kumasi storm various health facilities to receive the Johnson and Johnson vaccine against COVID-19.
Health authorities implored persons 18 years and above to avail themselves for the jabs as cases continue to rise.
The four hotspot districts in the Ashanti region include Kumasi metro, Asokwa, Oforikrom and Kwadaso municipalities.
These districts contribute to more than 80 percent of the over 1,200 active cases in the region.
At the Suntreso government hospital in Kumasi, persons at higher risk mostly the aged thronged the premises to receive their jab of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine against COVID-19.
Dr Thomas Agyarko Poku is the medical superintendent of Suntreso hospital.
Meanwhile, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Dr Patrick Kumah Aboagye has said that Ghana has secured 16.9million doses of the vaccines.
“This is just the first of many tranches that will be coming in. This is a vaccine that is being shared across the world. We know that for the J & J, our stock of what we have secured is about 16.9 million doses.
“They’d be coming from time to time and very soon we’d get a few more tranches,” he told JoyNews.
