Four persons have been arrested in connection with last Friday’s Mampong-Ejura Highway robbery incident in the Ashanti Region during which a Police officer was shot dead.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 33 years, are Gariba Salifu alias Kudi; Sulemana Ibrahim; Mumuni Yusif alias Romeo; and Emmanuel Yeboah alias Tupac.

Gariba Salifu, has been identified by one of the robbery victims, the Ashanti Regional Police Command told journalists Thursday. In their possession were guns, clubs, digital camera, and wallets among other items.

Armed with short guns, the suspects blocked the Mampong-Ejura highway and robbed passengers on board two buses of their money, phones and other personal effects.

The incident occurred in the villages of Ejura-Nkwanta and Hiawoanwu on January 22.

The armed robbers in the process shot dead a Police officer, Alexander Cheremeh, stationed at Bimbila in the northern region, who was in civilian attire on board one of the buses from Yeji to Kumasi.

The Police arrived at the robbery scene after the robbers had fled with their booty.

Briefing journalists in Kumasi Thursday, Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, said Police intelligence led to the arrest of the four suspects, and expressed worry about the involvement of Fulanis in armed robbery operations in the region.
