A total of 27 persons suspected to be engaged in various forms of criminal activities within Kasoa and its environs in the Central Region have been arrested. The suspects were said to be snatching mobile phones and other valuables from people at the Kasoa High Tension area. They were arrested in a swoop Thursday  by the Kasoa District Police Command. “We had 27 of suspected criminals, and they had on them assorted phones, pliers, and knives and so on. We are yet to screen them, and those that are connected to any crime already, we will arraign them before court,” Kasoa District Commander, Superintendent Stephen Ahiatafu told TV3. The swoop was a follow up to an earlier one on April 29 when more than 130 suspected criminals were arrested. The District Commander claimed information available to the Police was that the suspects were persons believed to be snatching mobile phones from people with knives, hammer and pliers. He said some 200 assorted mobile phones were retrieved from the suspects upon their arrest. Supt. Ahiatafu said the regular swoops form part of strategies by the Police Command to rid the Kasoa area off criminals. “We carry out these swoops to destabilize Kasoa because it has become a highly populated area with a lot more people moving to settle here. Over 50 people move to Kasoa every week according to information we had from the planning committee of the Assembly,” he said. Supt. Ahiatafu assured that they would continue to carry out the swoops intermittently to ensure people are free to go about their businesses in the area. He said 85 out of the 135 suspects who were arrested previously have been sent to court, and that the 27 arrested Thursday would also be screened and processed for court. He appealed to the public to help the police with information to deal with crime to ensure their safety. By Thomas Vincent Cann| 3news.com| Ghana]]>
