A parliamentary aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Kwesimentsim Constituency of the Western Region, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, has provided insurance cover for all 372 delegates in the constituency.

The one-year insurance package covers their spouses and three children each.

The insurance package offers an amount of GH¢5,000 each for group cover, critical illness, Covid-19 and spousal cover while it offers GH¢3,000 for child cover and GH¢1,000 for medical expenses.

Speaking to 3news.com after handing over the package to the beneficiaries, Dr. Prince Armah explained the gesture is to help delegates overcome risks they face while working for the party.

“Delegates and the work that they do is associated with a lot of risk. There are issues relating to political violence normally due to rallies and campaigns. So, what I have done is to collaborate with Enterprise Insurance to cover the delegates by mitigating some of the risk associated with their services to the party as party officers.”

He added: “Beyond their party works, these gallant and often selfless officials also have to battle personal issues every day. You can talk of illness and other daily life issues. When they happen, they often look up to the party for support. And so, what I have done is again to provide answers to some of their inevitable daily life issues.”

Dr. Armah insisted the gesture is not to entice the delegates to vote for him in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

Rather, he maintained, the gesture is to demonstrate to the delegates and, by extension, the people of Kwesimentsim what he is capable of doing as their parliamentary representative.

“If it were to be for votes, maybe I would have waited for the delegates to vote before I do this insurance. No, I’m doing this because it is the right thing to do. I have worked at the polling station, constituency and the regional levels before and I know how it feels. These are some of the things I wish I had. So, if I am in the position to do it, I will not engage in any carrot and stick antics. I want to demonstrate that I have the mental fortitude to solve challenges.”

Dr Armah added: “I want to them to know that their sacrifices are very much appreciated and also to motivate them to work more for this great party.”
