2 people have been confirmed dead and about 20 others trapped in a mining pit at Bonsawire in the Tarkwa municipality in the Western region.
The pit is believed to have caved in at about 5:30 am on Monday when the miners were underground. The cause of the collapse is not immediately known but eyewitness reports indicate that the police are undertaking a search and rescue effort.
As of the time of filing the story about 8 people had been rescued from the pit but 2 were dead. The others are receiving treatment at the Tarkwa Nsuem government hospital.
