New ‘alien’ NHIS manager for Somanya chased out of office by alleged NPP men

A new manager for the Somanya National Health Insurance Scheme, Emmanuel Martey, has for the second consecutive time, been chased out of his office by some persons said to be members of the New Patriotic Party. The man, who reported for work for the first time Wednesday, had his office locked up by the group when he stepped out to officially introduce himself to the municipal chief executive for Lower Manya Krobo as the new manager. This was after he had met with the entire staff of the office Wednesday. It took the intervention of the MCE for the men to open the office for him to resume his duties. But on Thursday at about 2:00pm, the group numbering six, stormed the premises of the District NHIS office, forced the new manager out of his office and placed it under lock.

The office was locked by the group
The group, led by two known NPP members in the area one of who contested in the recent constituency executive election of the party, are claiming Mr. Martey does not come from the area, hence cannot assume the position. “Their main reason is that they claim someone cannot come from a difference constituency to become the NHIS manager when they claim to have competent people who can man that office,” our correspondent Wilson Adamptey.Mr. Martey is from Asesewa in the Upper Manya area. The group want someone from with the District to be employed for the job. “As it stands, the office of the manager is under lock and key, but all the other offices have been opened for work to continue,” our correspondent indicated.
