NDC first introduced Free SHS under Rawlings – Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has stated that the NDC was the first to have introduced Free Senior High School under former President Jerry John Rawlings.

He claimed that the NDC ensured that access to free senior high school had legal backing after it was enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

His comments come after the Akufo-Addo administration started implementing its flagship programme in the sector of education.

Sammy Gyanfi said on Metro TV Thursday that “Free SHS is not the baby of the New Patriotic Party. That is a misconception most Ghanaians have now and it needs to be clarified”.

“Free secondary school education is an initiative of the NDC/ PNDC Tradition, during the drafting of the 1992 constitution.

“And that is why it is provided for under Article 25 of the 1992 constitution. They boycotted it when we were drafting it because they said they will not be part of constitution we have involve the ordinary Ghanaians,”  he said.
