Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is said to have dropped an unnamed player during the club’s pre-season tour this month because he was twice late for team meetings.

The player was supposed to play in a tour game but was dropped because he was late for meetings more than once.

The former Ajax boss is known as a strict disciplinarian, and poor attitude was one of the most common criticisms levelled at United players under previous managers.

According to The Athletic, Ten Hag sees tardiness as a “symptom of slipping standards.”

Ten Hag is said to believe that unchecked lateness will ‘bleed into other aspects of a footballer’s job on the field’ and that he is ‘very clear’ on what he will not accept.

United are unbeaten under Ten Hag, beating Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Melbourne Victory and drawing with Aston Villa during pre-season.

The Red Devils will play Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano before their first Premier League game against Brighton on August 7.
