It’s insulting to blame all the economic challenges on Covid and Russia-Ukraine war – Osman Ayariga

A member of the Communications team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Osman Ayariga has said the government cannot blame all the economic challenges on the outbreak of the coronavirus and also the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

In his view, the economy was deteriorating under the Akufo-Addo administration way before the two issues starting occurring.

Speaking on the New Day show on TV3 Friday July 8, Osman said the signs were clear that Ghana was heading to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) given the way the economy was being managed, way ahead of the outbreak of the pandemic and the warfare.

Contributing to a discussion on the decision by the government to head to the IMF on the show, he said “I find it very unfortunate and insulting sometimes, when I watch most of the NPP communicators try to heap all its problems on Covid and Russia Ukraine issues.

“We started trumpeting them way back even before Covid that the tangent or the road on which they are moving is leading you to an IMF programme and very soon, you will be unable to service your own debt .

“But of course they carried themselves as the epitome of economic competence yet we have seen the the high level of incompetency.”
