I didn’t promise more mortuaries for Zongos – Mahama

The campaign team of former president John Dramani Mahama has debunked reports that he promised more mortuaries for Zongo communities.

“For the records, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, during the live interview with TV XYZ and Woezor TV, took the opportunity to highlight his party’s proposed interventions in the People’s Manifesto for Zongos ad Deprived Urban Settlements,” a statement from the campaign team clarified on Monday, September 21.

It said Mr Mahama read from page 82 of NDC’s manifesto and so reports that he promised more mortuaries in Zongo communities are “false, misleading and inaccurate”.

The publication was headlined: ‘2020 elections: Mahama promises more mortuaries for Zongo communities’.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the said publication is mischievous, deliberately distorted and calculated to whip up anti-Muslim sentiments against the NDC and the John Mahama 2020 campaign,” the statement signed by Campaign Spokesperson James Agyenim-Boateng said.

“Muslims, in particular, and the general public are therefore entreated to disregard that offensive publication by treating it with the contempt it deserves.”
