Zebilla District Hospital gets new 40-bed maternity block

A new 40-bed maternity block for the Zebilla District Hospital has been commissioned to help improve maternal healthcare delivery in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region. The new maternity ward boasts of washrooms, neonatal care unit, delivery ward, as well as doctor and nurses changing rooms. It was funded by the Bawku West District Assembly under the District Development Fund (DDF). Upper East Regional Minister Madam Tangoba Abayage who commissioned the new block underscored the need for maternal and child health needs to be prioritized to reduce the current high rate of maternal mortality in the country. She said the facility will improve maternal and neonatal health in Zebilla as well as transform the lives of expectant mothers and improve their reproductive health. Madam Abayage asked the Hospital to “properly” manage the new maternity block, indicating though the government alone cannot solve all the challenges, it will work hard as a matter of urgency to furnish ward with beds. A Staff of the hospital, Stephen Agbambilla, thanked government for the project and assured the facility will ease the lack accommodation in the hospital. He said 2,183 pregnant women visit the hospital annually for healthcare. The Minister also inspected ongoing projects in the area including market stalls, Day Care centre and construction of gutter at Zebilla. District chief executive of the area, Madam Victoria Ayamba, urged health officials of the Bawku West to provide quality healthcare to patients in a bit care for patients to lift the good image of the hospital.
