The Kpone Health Centre was established in 1996[/caption] Authorities at the Kpone Health Centre in the Greater Accra Region have appealed to the first lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, to help expand and give a facelift to the facility to better serve the health needs of the people in the For over 22 years, the facility has not seen any expansion or facelift despite the increase in the population of the area which currently stands at 120,000. The authorities say the population has outgrown the capacity of the facility. In 2018, Out Patient Department attendance at the health centre reached 27,000 while the maternity unit recorded 464 deliveries. Administrator of the centre, David Dotse, said it is not the best for the centre to be in its current state after 22 years. He has thus called on Mrs Akufo-Addo to extend a helping hand to the center. “We want to take this opportunity to appeal to our mother, the first lady, she should come down to Kpone and assist us. This one we are appealing, it is a passionate appeal”, he told TV3’s Mission Ghana team. Aside the lack of equipment in the facility, the centre is woefully understaffed, a situation that forces nurses to double task as physician assistants and consulting doctors,Senior Nursing Officer, Helen Biney disclosed. She revealed the centre does not have flowing water, proper delivery beds and other basic equipment. “If we could get more staff, at least four to joins us to handle both A & C and then labour ward, and the secondly, we need a radiant warmer and a very comfortable delivery bed”, she reiterated the administrator’s appeal.
