There have been more than five receipts received concerning payments made by patients to cover their dialysis at the Renal Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

On Thursday, September 28, while speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3, Chief Executive of the Hospital Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah said only five patients paid the proposed fee.

He added that patients were not supposed to be charged the new cost as it has not yet been approved by Management despite being posted at the Unit.

“When that was seen, when it came to the attention of the Director of Medical Services, he immediately issued a directive to them to take it down and revert to the old regime,” Dr Ampomah explained the action taken after the notice was put up.

He insisted not more than five patients paid the new cost of GH¢765.42, from the previous GH¢380.

But hard-hitting investigative show Johnnies Bite on 3FM has received close to 10 receipts including those of a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old on payments of the ‘illegal’ cost.

Dr Ampomah had promised that the monies will be offset for the patients since they visit the unit regularly.
