KATH: Alleged sale of HIV-Syphilis infested blood under investigation

Management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti region has announced the constitution of a five-member committee to investigate allegations of the sale of contaminated blood by the facility. One Addo-Kwabla Evans, in a Facebook post, accused the hospital of selling two units of HIV-Syphilis infested blood to his mum. He claimed the blood units were administered at the Kean Health Center, a private medical center in Kumasi. But KATH Saturday raised doubts about the veracity of the reports saying, “KATH has a track record of stringent blood testing protocols and maintains the highest standard for blood safety”. However, the hospital has set up a committee comprising representatives from the Ghana Police Service, the Food and Drugs Authority, the National AIDS control programme and the National Public Health Reference Lab to investigate the matter.
