A Clinical Microbiologist and a lecturer at the Department of Medical Diagnostics, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr Michael Owusu has projected the number of Covid infections in the country to increase in the month of January.

He however, expects a drop in cases of new infection at the end of the same month.

He told Alfred Ocansey on the Sunrise show on 3FM Tuesday Janury 4 that “There is a lot that we need to do. I think a lot has happened and I expect that in January a lot more people will become more infected.

“If you look at the numbers, now it has been almost stagnant around 1000 which means that the virus is already in a saturated point.

“So, at this point in time many more people May be infected. We may reach the point where we may also begin to record reduction in new cases may be somewhere latter part of January because of the intense transmission that has gone on.”

Ghana has recorded 1,067 new COVID-19 cases.

This brings the current active case count to 12,422.

Out of this number, 23 and 4 persons are in severe and critical conditions, respectively.

This is per the latest update by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The new cases bring the country’s total case count to 146,119, with 1,306 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country in March 2020, while 132,391 recoveries have been recorded.
