Nine new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Ghana, bringing the total number recorded in the country since Thursday, March 12 to 214.
Out of the newly confirmed cases, three were recorded in the Ashanti Region while six were recorded in the Greater Accra Region.
Among these nine cases, two have no travel history.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) stated on its website that one in the Greater Accra Region, a 37-year-old woman, has not also had contact with a confirmed case apart from not having ever travelled.
“One is a repeat test of travellers under quarantine who was initially negative but converted to positive on repeat test.”
The rest were detected as a result of the enhanced testing approach initiated by the Service on Monday, March 30.
Two of the cases in the Ashanti Region had travelled to Ghana from France within the last 14 days.
Ghana has closed its borders as a result of the spread of the deadly viral disease and this was extended by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Saturday.
The country’s major cities including Kasoa and Tema are also under a 14-day partial lockdown.
So far, five persons who are said to have harboured underlying health conditions have passed away as a result of the disease.
