GMB contestant and Upper West regions’ representative, Teroo is passionate about using creative writing skills to mitigate the effects of teenage pregnancy in her community. According to Terro, the ramifications of teenage pregnancy include poverty and maternal mortality. These, she points out, are two principal impediments to national growth.

Dora Mwinteroo Diyuoh, a 26-yar old nurse who hails from Eremon in the Lawra Municipality of the Upper West region, goes by Teroo on Ghana’s Most Beautiful stage. Teroo’s concern for adolescent mothers transcends from their heath to their financial stability in society and how it affects national development on a larger scale.

“We would have reduced maternal deaths or complications if teenagers are able to make the right choices and avoid teenage pregnancy.
And also, we won’t have a lot of dependents after they have their children. Who takes care of these babies after they are born? Because most of these young mothers are not even independent on their own. Now they are coming to have dependents. And as a country that is us heading deeper and deeper into poverty.”

Teroo hopes to leverage the GMB platform to help young girls make good choices that positively affect their future. According to her, if teenagers get pregnant at that age, their bodies are not well prepared for childbirth and psychologically, taking care of children is a gruelling task.

“I chose Ghana’s Most Beautiful because it is decent and I am a lover of culture. This is an opportunity to teach people about my culture and learn about other cultures. It is also an opportunity for me to discover my strengths and how they can impact society constructively. Also, I love to be a source of positive influence and an inspiration to young people. And I think GMB is that perfect platform that I can use to do that.”

Teroo is confident of her emergence as GMB 2021 queen at the end of the competition. She said, “I stand out because I am focused. I am purposeful and a goal-getter. I am confident and think I am prepared for this and ready for each task that would come my way.

“In the next 5 years, I would love to work hand-in-hand with opportunities that come with helping out young people. Because I am very passionate about adolescence and maternal health. And things that are relating to poverty reduction. I always say these three things are interdependent; poverty, teenage pregnancy and maternal health,” she concluded.
