Participating in the tournament are Abena 11, Malaga FC, Abelemkpe 11, Tsatsu 11, Soccer Brains Academy, Champion FC, Bisa Keep Fit and Church of Christ. The Eastern regional representative in the competition is seeking to use the football gala as an opportunity to reach out to young people and educate them on HIV/AIDS issues. The programme is an initiative of ‘Obaa Nao’ Foundation, established by the beauty queen to run her HIV/AIDS project, which is in two phases. Phase one which is dubbed Are you aware? seeks to remind people about HIV/ AIDS; its causes and preventive measures among other issues on the disease. The second phase, Gyewo 1, will focus on creating awareness about HIV/AIDS through social media as well as the distribution of free condoms to advocate the need for protected sex. In an interview with Onua FM’s Frank Osei Owusu, Abena said she intends to use the football gala as a platform to reach out to people about the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Ghana. “You realize of late, if we are trying to protect ourselves from teenage pregnancy and you use a condom, you can’t contract any disease and you won’t be pregnant as well. “That is why we will teach how to use it so it doesn’t tear,” Abena said.
