W/R to get six of Agenda 111 hospitals – Minister

Western Region Minister Kobby Otchere-Darko Mensah has announced that the Region will get six new hospital projects under government’s Agenda 111.

“…taking cognizance of the fact that Covid-19 actually exposed to us the gaps in our healthcare delivery system, government has embarked on Agenda 111 and we must all support this laudable initiative.”

Speaking at a ceremony to open a new Biosafety Level II facility at the Public Health Laboratory at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the regional minister explained that the move is directed at augmenting the health needs of the region “especially so that the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital will not be overburdened and also have a new breath of life”.

He announced that the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital will be upgraded into a teaching hospital while a new regional hospital will be built at Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly.

“The new regional hospital will help take care of the health needs of our people from the Nzema and the Wassa area. We will also have a new district hospital for Mpohor, one for the Agona Nkwanta and Apowa area, one for Shama and one Amenfi Central.”

The regional minister stressed: “This is to make sure that the health system of the Western Region, which is the energy, gold and cocoa capital of the country will get a fair share and be in a better stead to maintain life and be able to produce to support the growth of businesses in the country.”
