Eunice Jacqueline Buah secured 24 votes as against Nana Bonkyi Akomea’s 4 votes to retain her position.
Last Friday when the Electoral Commission conducted the election for a Council of State representative for the Western Region, there was no winner.
Incumbent Eunice Jacqueline Buah secured 14 votes while her challenger Ntori Bonkyi Akomea also had 14 votes.
In total, 28 people voted.
On Monday when the two met for the re-election, they were both in high spirit.
But before voting, Nana Akomea expressed reservation about the conduct of some members of the electoral college.
Momentarily, there was a stand-off between him and the regional EC director Angelina Tagoe.
“The other time, we all saw what happened. Today, I have been made aware that a similar election malpractice will occur. This time, they will be using pen and pencil for whatever I don’t know,” he alleged
But Ms Angelina Tagoe retorted, “Nana if you have any issue kindly draw my attention to it. The last time when you complained, we told them not to take their cameras to the voting booth…”.
Nonetheless, the exercise proceeded smoothly afterwards.
After voting, Nana Akomea had 4 votes while Eunice Jacqueline Buah had 24 votes.
Eunice Jacqueline Buah thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to work to help attract the necessary development for the Western Region.
“I want to thank all for the votes. The votes are not for me but for the Western Region. I will, with this new endorsement, work assiduously for Western Region to get whatever it is due it.”
Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Francis Ndede Siah in an interview called for unity.
“The election is over. What is needed now is how Madam Buah will work in unison with us all and for the benefit of the region. We must quickly close our rank and file, come together and give her all the support she needs so that she succeeds.”
