Police in the Ashanti Region have rounded up two suspects in connection with the mob attack and subsequent death of Ibrahim Anyass, popularly known as Macho Kaaka on Facebook.

The social media activist did not survive a mob attack on Friday, June 25 after sustaining head wounds.

On Tuesday, June 29, the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, said two persons have been arrested.

“The suspects are Ibrahim Issaka alias Anyars and Fuseini Alhassan, currently in custody.

“Both were arrested at about 10:45pm on Monday 28 June 2021 following police intelligence.”

Macho Kaaka was immediately rushed to the Ejura Government Hospital after he had shouted for help when he was attacked.

Due to the critical condition in which he was, he was transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he died midday Monday.

He has been seen as a strong activist of the Economic Fighters League founded by Ernesto Yeboah but recently joined in the #FixTheCountry social media campaign, positing videos and images of stalled and abandoned government projects in the Ejura Sekyeredumase District.

“Police investigations will also extend to rumours that the deceased was a journalist and a member of the #FixTheCountry movement to ascertain if the murder was linked to his work or the movement,” ASP Ahianyo said on Tuesday.

He appealed for “relevant” information from the public to aid investigations.

Already, relatives of the deceased are demanding justice to prevent any reprisal attacks from youth of Dagombaline, where the deceased was resident.
