The Savannah Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into an accident on the Bole-Bamboi Highway in which four persons died while several others got injured.

The police say the driver of the bus with registration number AP 7778-21, which was being driven by one Kofi Konadu, told the police after the accident that his ignition went off and that the police says only investigations can establish the fact.

The Savanna Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Agyekum Owusu, made these revelations in an interview on 3FM’s Sunrise on Monday hosted by Alfred Ocansey.

Three out of the four persons died on the spot while the other died at Bamboi Policlinic in the incident which happened in the wee hours of Sunday near Kwame-Kwasi Township.

Police report says the speeding bus with registration number AP 7778-21 reportedly ran into a Burkinabe stationary truck.

While preparing to evacuate the victims, another Kia bus also rammed into it and several passengers in the Wa bound ESP Kia bus sustained various degrees of injuries.

Many of them were rushed to the Bamboi Poly Clinic for treatment while the deceased were sent to the Wenchi Hospital for autopsy.

Inspector Agyekum Owusu said “the bus traveling from Kumasi to Wa crashed into a parked articulated truck on the nearside of the road”.

“The driver told the police that his ignition went off and could not control the vehicle, thereby running into its stationary Burkinabe truck. Another bus which was also following Kofi Kanodu could not swerve and as such ran into the accident. Three passengers in the first bus lost their lives”.
