Friday night’s rains in the Central Region have wreaked havoc in the capital and surrounding communities, leaving lots of properties destroyed.

The rains are said to have started 6:30 Friday evening till 4:00am Saturday, June 18.

The downpour caused the only bridge that links Cape Coast and the Kakum National Park at Jukwa to be cut off completely.

As a result, the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) on Saturday issued an urgent notice, advising motorists to use the Cape Coast-Yamoransa-Assin Fosu-Twifo Praso road instead of the usual Cape Coast-Twifo Praso road “as the Authority mobilizes to solve the problem as soon as possible”.

“We apologize sincerely for any inconvenience caused.”

The floods are said to have destroyed properties of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana EXIM Bank, Lawrence Nana Agyinsam.

Central Region Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Joseph Donkor has appealed to residents to be careful as the meteorological agency has hinted of heavy rains this year.

He led a delegation to visit affected areas.

Most residents are said to be trapped in the various homes.
