The Savannah Regional Police Command has hailed the youth in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba for volunteering and directing them to apprehend suspected armed robbers who attacked the citizens over the weekend.

The Ghana Police said such should be the attitude of every community since it will help reduce crimes in the various communities.

Two out of four suspected armed robbers who allegedly attacked and robbed a mobile money agent at Sawla were killed at Kalba within Sawla-Tuna-kalba District of Savannah region by a local patrol team of Kalba.

The police said there were several minutes of exchange of fire.

The suspected armed robbers were four but after the exchange of fire, two escaped.

The local vigilante group and the police are aggressively searching for the remaining two around Kalba, while the bodies of the two killed have since been conveyed by police.

Reacting to the development on 3FM’s Sunrise on Monday, the Savannah Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Agyekum Owusu explained that “the youth know the terrain so they gave us the direction”.

“They told us there is a river here…there is a mountain here which led to the pursuit of the robbers but the actual shootout was between the police and the robbery”.

He said “no community member sustained injury”.

“We applaud the services rendered to us. You see, combating crime is everybody’s responsibility. We the police have the core mandate but if a community will help us, we applaud them and pray for God’s guidance and blessing to the community”.

Inspector Agyekum Owusu appealed to the community to help in apprehending those who have absconded.

“We urge them to help us…whoever has information that would lead to the arrest of these, we will welcome that”.

He explained that “there is no hospital or health center in the area so if anybody is seen who has sustained a gunshot, he is the person we are looking for ”.

Inspector Agyekum Owusu noted that “they [suspects] are highly suspected that they are the same people who attacked the mobile money vendor”.

“We have gathered a clue that they are the same person who attacked a mobile money vendor a few days ago”.
