The 2020 Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), David Apasera, has sent a congratulatory message to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on his election as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr Bawumia beat Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Agyapong, former Agric Minister Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh on Saturday, November 4 to clinch the ticket of leading the NPP into next year’s elections.

He polled a total of 118,210 votes out of 193,346, representing 61.47 percent to become the winner.

In his message dated Sunday, November 5, Mr Apasera noted that it is no easy task campaigning to be elected as a presidential candidate, no less in a party as the NPP.

He stressed that Dr Bawumia deserves “loads of commendations for the time, effort and sacrifice put into his campaign”.

He noted that the PNC has always approached politics in Ghana as a contest of varying ideas geared towards making Ghana and Ghanaians better off.

“As such, we promise the Vice President a battle of ideas in the 2024 elections,” he stated.

“It is our utmost belief and conviction that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia would welcome the contest of ideas and policies and engage in a decent and policy-based campaign that would elicit the best alternative policies capable of transforming Ghana and making life better for the masses.”

He promised that the PNC will give the NPP a good run for their money “as we shall keep their feet to the fire in calling for accountable governance and a proven track record of their mandate so far”.

The former Bolgatanga MP applauded the NPP “for a well-organised presidential primaries keeping in tandem with tested democratic credentials necessary in building democratic Ghana”.
