Media General’s Takoradi-based radio station Connect FM partnered the organisers of the Jawuley Arts Festival this Easter to tell events with craft and arts.

The Jawuley Arts Festival assembles young men and women to display the rich and unique Ghanaian culture.

This year, the display was to tell the events of Easter with craft and arts while showcasing the Ghanaian culture.

One of the highest moments was the enactment of the journey and subsequent crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It was a new concept.

In the Garden of Gethsemane as Jesus Christ was praying, one of his disciples – Judas Iscariot – approached him and planted a kiss on his cheeks. Unfortunately, it was a kiss of betrayal; Jesus will be arrested.

To re-live this event, there was an all-white lantern procession through the principal streets of Sekondi.

On Good Friday, there was the Black Friday procession and crucifixion. ‘Jesus’ was paraded through the principal streets of Sekondi, with soldiers of Roman flogging him, as he dragged his cross.

The ceremonial ground, Enamase, become Calvary, where Jesus Christ was crucified.

Tens of thousands of residents both far and near lined up the street to watch; the events appeared to awe them.

Placed at strategic points at Enamase were paintings, telling many stories of Easter.

There were also several cultural displays, fashion show, talks and other events all intended to retell the Easter story.

Regional Manager of Connect FM Ransford Nana Osei Asare, who was happy with the turnout of the event, called on organizations “to take advantage of such occasions to sell as it is a great way to get to their target markets”.

According to him, the huge crowds at the events were phenomenal and a delight for any marketer.

“I urge them to come and see what happens in Sekondi during Easter and they will not regret it,” he said.
