Parliament resumes sitting today

    Parliament will reconvene today, January 28 for a 9-week sitting that will see the legislators among other things, consider a number of bills. The sitting, which will be the first for the year and also the final under the fourth session of the 7th parliament, will consider a number of motions for debate and referrals at the Committee level. President Nana Akufo-Addo will also present his last State of the Nation Address under his first four-year term. Bills to be presented to the House will include Affirmative Action Bill 2019, Rent (Amendment) Bill 2019, Ghana Petroleum Hub Development Corporation Bill 2019 and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency Reform (Amendment) Bill 2019. Seventeen bills at the Committee level which will also be worked on during the sitting include Legal Profession (Amendment) Bill 2018, Intestate Succession Bill 2018, Office of the Special Prosecutor (Amendment) Bill 2019 and the Ghana Communication Technology University Bill 2019. The Ghana Cocoa Board (Amendment) Bill 2017 which is with the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and the Customs Amendment Bill 2019 with the Finance Committee will be read for a second time.
