The Western Region Minister and Acting Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, is inviting more investment to the region, speaking about the beautiful tourist attractions and business opportunities.

He was speaking during a courtesy call on him by a three-man delegation from Palermo municipality in Italy.

The delegation is on a four-day working visit to Sekondi-Takoradi as part of the implementation of Twin-Cities in Sustainable Partnership Project (TCSPP).

The three-member delegation comprises of Prof. Mario Zito, Lawyer Francesco Campagna and Artist Francesco Bellina.

The regional minister and acting mayor of Sekondi Takoradi stated that one of the key areas that the Region is taking up seriously is climate change, adding that the two countries should prepare to build technologies to combat it.

He called on them to collaborate with the Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in building technological innovation as the world is busily turning to technology.

He added that if the two countries are able to collaborate, they would be able to build working and manufacturing space to encourage Ghanaian youth to stay in Ghana to create opportunities and jobs for themselves to discourage them migrating illegally to Europe.

He appealed to them to encourage their business community to invest in the Western Region.

A member of the delegation, Lawyer Francesco Campagna, acknowledging the many opportunities in Ghana especially in the Western Region, called for stronger cooperation between the two countries.

He said with an efficient and fruitful collaboration, it will be possible to involve the small and medium enterprises in both countries for a win-win situation.

He believes apart from tourism, the connection between the free zone in Palermo and Ghana can easily boost export between the two countries.

According to him, durable collaboration is needed to pave a way for companies in the Western Region to have the right partners in Palermo in different areas from Agric to tourism.

He argued that Ghana is the gateway “if you want to know what a real Africa is in a comfortable and safe manner, so if a company or business wants to develop they should invest in Africa and for that matter Ghana’s Western Region”.

He called on the regional minister and the Chief Executive Officer of the Sekondi Takoradi the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to visit Palermo and have a deliberation with some interested investors to come and invest in Ghana.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vincent Annan, called on their counterparts from Italy Palermo to team up with them in the field of business to build a strong economy between Ghana and Italy.

The Twin-Cities in Sustainable Partnership Project (TCSPP) is a 3-year (2022–2025) project funded by the European Union (EU) at a total budget of €3 million.

The EU is contributing 95% whereas STMA is providing 5%.

Partners of the project are the Municipality of Palermo, Cooperazione Internazionale Sud Sud (CISS), Ghana Sicily Business Forum and Kumasi Technical University.

The Project is geared towards addressing the challenges of rapid urbanization, climate change, exclusion, unemployment, irregular migration and preparedness to battle infectious disease outbreaks such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
