The National Socialist Congress (NSC), a simulated political party, has emerged as winners of the 2022 edition of the political communication competition organized by the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).

The simulated political communication competition, which was first organized in 2020, has since been an annual event in accordance with academic requirements for all Level 300 students of the school.

The event, which took place at the forecourt of the Ringway campus of the Institute on Saturday, June 11, saw 10 simulated political parties compete for the ultimate position.

The parties campaigned on a common platform bringing to bear their policies and programmes to form a government.

The National Socialist Congress (NSC) emerged winners as their policies and programmes won the hearts of the judges.

Flagbearer of the party Philip Opare Israel Junior told 3news.com the victory was as a result of the combined efforts of members of the party.

“We spent day and night preparing for this day and I’m happy the time, efforts, support and determination of myself, the executives and the general membership of the party paid off.

“It is an opportunity to research more into political communication and I think it is a wonderful learning experience for us as students,” he added.

Director of Communications of NSC Festus Sefa Sedofia told journalists after the event that the competition is an eye opener for students interested in venturing into politics.

“Communication involves more than talking but ensuring that what you say makes sense to the voter is paramount and this provides such an opportunity.”

The simulated political parties engaged in activities including election of party executives, flagbearer and running mate, launch of party and manifesto and other practical communication strategies.

A Senior Lecturer at the Department of Communication-University of Ghana, Dr. Abena Yeboah, broadcast journalist and Head of Political Desk at Joy News Evans Mensah and the Head of Business Desk at Media General Alfred Ocansey were the judges for the event.

A trophy and a citation were presented to the winner.
