Dominic Nitiwul, who has served as Minister of Defence in the past four years, will be the first to face the Appointments Committee on Thursday.
He will be followed by former Deputy Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, who has been nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the sector minister.
He is expected to replace Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, if approved. Dr Opoku Prempeh himself has been nominated as the Minister of Energy.
On Wednesday, at the start of vetting by the 26-even-member Committee, Dormaa Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kwaku Agyeman-Manu was grilled over issues surrounding Covid-19, particularly the engagement of Frontier Health Service Limited to run on-arrival tests at the Kotoka International Airpot (KIA).
Albert Kan Dapaah, who has served as Minister for National Security, also answered questions on the country’s security situation, especially the recent phenomenon on the deployment of the military for bodyguard duties.
“Anywhere you have seen soldiers having to protect a particular individual, it is because, in our assessment and assessment of security experts, there is the need for such support to be given to that particular person,” he told the Committee.
“This is a decision normally taken by the security agencies. For instance, when we have a report that a particular individual has a problem and people are after his life, and we think there is a danger, we come in to provide support.”
